Surveillance cameras are used for many purposes these days and you can see them almost everywhere. These cameras are very helpful and a great tool for security. Let's look at how to choose the Best Home Security System for your particular purpose or application. Which means, you will need to select the correct camera for the job. Here are the three questions you should be asking yourself.

-Question 1 – will the camera be used in an indoor or an outdoor setting? If you need an outdoor camera, take a look in the camera specs to see if it's weatherproof or not.

-Question 2 – How is the lighting throughout the entire day? Some cameras have infrared or IR capabilities. The small built in IR LEDs help illuminate the cameras view but has no effect on the human eye. This is the same type of technologies the night vision goggle use. Day and night cameras are capable of switching to black-and-white mode. When there is a low lighting situation, cameras can see better in black-and-white.

-Question 3 – What video quality is desired? Specification will show the level of video quality represented by the TVL number. TVL which stands for TV Lines is a measurement of a camera’s horizontal resolution. So if a camera has a resolution of 350 TVL the cameras have 350 lines of resolution. As a reference; (Please take note of these numbers and remember them when shopping for a new surveillance camera)

oCameras with a TVL of 350 will have a lower resolution.

oCameras with a TVL of 480 are mid resolution

oCameras with a TVL or 540-600 are considered high resolution.
